Wow, what a change six-eight months can make. This article already feels like it's harkening back to such simpler times. And only now, in March 2009, is China vocally, loudly beginning to question the strength of the USD. Just last night they sent out a proposal to the IMF for an alternative world reserve currency.

Hi David -

That line sounds oversimplistic when I see it taken out of its context:) I certainly don't mean it that way, I was kind of shooting from the hip while writing this.:) Glad you liked the article though!

Neat article. I like the following line:
"In short, I think it’s time for more Americans to learn more about how their economy works and how investing works."

This is will not happen anytime soon.:-)

I know even stocks here in Canada have tumbled across the boards. Not sure why, just general investor fear, apparently. But it's a great buying opportunity! It's time to check the VIX again - the volatility index. Jim Cramer says we've hit a market bottom when the VIX goes to 40 and you see all the pain on the front page of the NYTimes.

The dollar is a real problem and doesn't look its decline is about to reverse course anytime soon. Declining assest value and a transfer of wealth (out of the US) are part of global supply and demand. As an investor, it is importnant to diversify to ensure you are hedged against further US dollar depreciation. Ie. Buy companies with significant oversesas earnings.
