As you can see from the CBOE (Chicago Board Options Exchange) website, the VIX (Volatility Index) stayed pretty even at 40 today.  Tell me if I’m wrong, but that’s basically the lowest volatility rating we’ve seen since the Lehman Brothers collapse of mid-September.  At its highest, the VIX was up to 87 or so.

Well, maybe we are getting close to 10% unemployment in the US as I suggested in a previous post.  The most recent numbers indicate that unemployment levels in the US have reached 7.5%.  According to this Globe and Mail report, anyway.  Still, it’s a long way off from Great Depression numbers.  AND unemployment is measured [...]

Get this.  Two years ago, Royal Bank of Canada was the world’s 50th largest bank by market cap.  By comparison, it was Canada’s largest bank by market cap (and it still is Canada’s largest bank).  But now, post-credit-crisis-financial-meltdown, Royal Bank is the world’s seventh largest bank by market cap!  I’ll repeat that.
