Good point, Monevator:) the stock market has no necessary correlation to the underlying economy - it could be representative, it could be way off - it's a measure of buyer sentiment and other things. China jumped into a heavy stimulus bath too, just like the U.S., so valuations may be all off.

I think this following China's index is a temporary phase because the market is so skittish. We'll probably retrace a bit whatever happens, but I don't see the Chinese being the new Masters of the Universe. The Shanghaii index was up very hard and arguably over-rated.

Following the Chinese *economy*, well that's another story and one I see continuing for a while yet (forever?)

My $0.03 (I'll raise Len a cent!)

Thanks for the feedback, guys. @TAM - a new capital firm? wow, I have some catching up to do with you. @Chad - good point, and I agree... we haven't seen much of a drop. I'm still expecting more, too - staggered. @Len - wow, didn't know you were all out early like that - congrats. I held on, but recently I'm rethinking a pure buy-and-hold strategy. As for the time being, I'm waiting until we see another significant drop. But we don't want to wait too long - it's possible we'll get another quick rally.

Nice round-up, ME!

Like Buffett says, "if you wait until you see the robin, spring will already be over."

Although I still think the stock market will be essentially treading water over the next year or three, I feel I can afford to jump in now, having been lucky enough to have pulled completely out of the market at the beginning of 2008, thereby avoiding the carnage most folks suffered over the past year.

Since I do have more room for error now, it would be especially egregious of me if I were caught sleeping when springtime finally does roll around - so I am committed to stocks at this time.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out over the next year or two.

My $0.02 (after taxes)

Waiting for better prices. I still don't see the positives going from a Great Recession to just a normal recession. Going down slower is still going down. Admitedly, I'm sure a few companies got hit harder than necessary, but I don't see any numbers suggesting any real growth. Maybe we won't retest the lows of March, but the move down yesterday was not a buying opportunity.
