With inventories being purposely lowered, it may be smart to stock up early while there are choices.

I guess I'm the nerd, since I definitely want to keep better track of things like holiday spending:) If you don't watch carefully it can really spiral out of control, especially when we get caught up in all the partying and social spending that goes along with it!

Great article, but who actually keeps their notes and budgets from last year?

"Plan ahead, but don’t plan too much. After all, we don’t really want to be thinking about the holidays already. The point is to reduce stress and excess holiday spending, not to get stuck in it longer than we have to be." I like this point, personally I get stressed out planning things, schedules, lists, etc. Not sure why though. I'll feel better once I get out of debt. Cheers.

I agree, having a daunting list for the holidays makes us want to spend less, and the earlier that we can do it makes it even better. Thanks for the reminders!

I like the idea of keeping a list throughout the year of stuff "so-and-so" would like/need, and getting it when you can. Also, to know what you got them previously (in case you or someone else gets stuck for ideas).

We've already started buying our Christmas gifts for family members. We start early, and plan ahead so that we spending a little bit each month in Sept. Oct. and Nov. (and a bit in early Dec.). That way it's not one huge spend-fest.
