As interest rates in the US increase, and they will, the commodities will get killed (this isn't a prediction it's macro 101 fact). When the greenback pays more (T-Bill rates higher) the US dollar will increase in value relative to other developed western economies. The propaganda being spun by the tightie righties is BS. If they think Obama is a socialist then how would you describe Canada? Our recovery, albeit sluggish and slow, WILL OUTPERFORM CANADA BY A COUNTRY MILE (yes, I was yelling) For anyone to rationalize $80/bbl oil means you are ill infomed or an oil man. Our future problems, inflation & higher interest rates, will prove to be our salvation. The idea we need to drive our GDP with exports is a joke! We will never compete with China or any BRIC country until our working class is living on dirt floors. Our economy has been consumer driven since approx 1920's. Stronger dollar in US gives our narcissistic conspicous consumers stronger purchasing power (lets call that increased demand), and this is eventually what leads to a long term healthy expansion based on heallthy fundamentals. The idea that we can drive our GDP with a cheap dollar is a joke.... go back to your high school macro econ class and read a book instead of relying on dip$hits on the internet. God gave you a brain, use it.

Well unless basic mathematics no longer applies, the Canadian dollar should be valued at least where it is and probably a bit higher going forward. Unless the U.S. fundamentals are substantially fixed there is no logical reason for the U.S. dollar to become stronger because it can't. Right now, this is what the Fed wants anyway since supposedly it will help U.S. exports and hopefully the U.S. economy.

Do you anticipate the Canadian dollar doing well long term against the dollar? Many believe so since the Canadian economy is heavily backed by commodities. What are your thoughts?
