Thanks, Simple In France - it's good to hear from someone as sensible as you and know there are folks like you in the US - (or, maybe more often now, American expats).

Actually, maybe it's counterintuitive, but from an outsider's perspective I actually like seeing and knowing that the government is willing and able to take its corporations to task. I certainly believe there is much underhandedness at the level of the huge-ass corporation well prior to any touch of the government hand. Goldman shouldn't be acting like an international bully and dealsmaker/breaker (it tried to stop the sale of assets between two Canadian media companies a couple months ago!!! (because it once had invested a slice of money in one of them). Goldman needs to stay in the US., thanks.

Nice rant! I think it's possibly even more annoying to witness the whole thing as a US citizen. . .you want to fire someone, or 'vote the bastards out' or raise some kind of hell. I mean think of it: we've paid tons of money to bail out Goldman Sachs (who got us into this mess in the first place) so that now they can use the bail out money to be the only ones who seem to be raking it in at this time--oh and in addition run the risk of destabilizing Europe (where I currently live). There is no escaping these guys apparently.

You're right--other banking systems in the world are not as stupid as those in the US. But you know what really gets me? Watching the Senate hearings where our 'leaders' rant and bash those weasels at Goldman Sachs. It makes me so mad--they wouldn't have to go through this whole charade of ranting if they had actually done their jobs and imposed some kind of regulation making say . . .lying about the rating of a fund. . . illegal.

Ok, but seriously, I'm stopping now, because this topic makes my blood pressure rise. Phew.

As Jimmy Paige once wrote - or was it Robert Plant? - "It makes me wonder". I wonder what defect it is in the psychological makeup of a group of human beings that would have them putting the health and well being of millions of other human beings behind the private profit of a very few. Most of these lawmakers who live in the pockets of the Plutocracy call themselves "Christians". Have they ever made a serious study of the books? You know! - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? - Those guys! How do they justify their actions? How do they sleep at night? We're talkin' major hypocrisy here! That's what makes them so much fun to watch! I always get a certain twisted delight in watching their fake piety. Imagine Wendy O. Williams being cast as Bernadette of Lourdes; or Marilyn Manson as Mahatma Gandhi. It's kind of the same thing.

Sooner or later our right wing friends, within the Congress and without, are going to be forced to admit that the era of anything goes deregulation was a really stupid idea. You can only sit calmly in a burning house, ignoring the flames all about you, for just so long. Sooner or later you'll be forced to flee for your life. After making your escape, if you still refuse to acknowledge that the house is indeed on fire, you're beyond the point where you can make rational decisions on your own. You've entered Librium Country, hombre!
