@Mauro – there’s a reason why advertising is such a big, ongoing industry and why Coca-Cola still spends something like $28 million/year on it even though everyone already “knows about” Coke. It’s called demand creation. Many of these “wants” are not really natural wants at all – the company/industry needs to hire psychologists and (neuro)marketers to create much demand for their products. But you sound like you’re quite smart, so you should be able to see this side of the equation, too.

Absolute rubbish. All the “other forms of redistribution of wealth” mentioned are volunteered. They are not imposed by force by the government. Sales taxes, are taxes on consumption, you have a choice. Rich people didn’t “make money” from the poor, but rather, he/she created a product or service that people wanted and worked very hard for it sacrificing many things in life that many others would never do.

Yes; my point here was to look at other forms that aren’t usually considered in the same category. Of course, regardless of which whether it’s a tax hike or cut, it’s still moving the supply around.
